Case Study - Private Client
This case study is based on the experiences of a private client based in the Scottish Borders.
The Problem
The customer contacted Retrofoam concerned that their energy bills were excessive and that the heating required being constantly on to maintain a comfortable environment within the building.
The customer had looked at various causes and narrowed it down by process of elimination to heat loss through the exterior walls.
Existing Wall Build Up
- 100mm block
- 50mm cavity
- Breather membrane
- 9.5mm OSB
- 95mm studs with failed mineral wool insulation between (insulation not present in all areas of the building)
- Vapour barrier
- 12.5mm plasterboard internally
The Options
After much research into the various options it had been decided that cavity wall insulation was the way forward but a visit from a cavity wall insulation specialist revealed that normal cavity wall insulation was unsuitable for this construction of house.
Even more harrowing news for the customer was that there was no alternative on the UK market.
By chance the customer came across Retrofoam and discussed the situation with one of our surveyors, we were happy to say that the unique RetroFoam™ product could do the job.
The Solution
RetroFoam™ were instructed to carry out the installation of their insulation product which was injected from the outside of the property directly in to the stud cavity.
Within a day the work had been completed to the satisfaction of the customer.
Client Testimonial
I cannot thank you both enough for the professional job you have done, the house is so much quicker to heat up and although the weather has been warmer, the thermostat has been turned down which I have not been able to do before the installation of RetroFoam. I am expecting once the winter months are upon us we will then see a vast difference in our bills and the heat within our house. Myself and my husband would have no hesitation in recommending your company and the product. Keep up the good work as your product is great for timber framed homes.
