RetroFoam™ Technical Specifications

RetroFoam™ With the breathability of buildings being a key consideration it is important to note that RetroFoam™ is vapour permeable at 4.655 grains/h-ft2 and is currently being tested to BS EN 12086. The products insulation qualities can be illustrated by its thermal conductivity which is 0.034W/m2k and RetroFoam™ is currently being tested in accordance with BS EN 12667.

The product has been heavily tested in the USA and brings with it to the UK a number of certifications covering water absorption, fire retarding levels, vapour transmission and thermal conductivity. RetroFoam™ has already been independently tested in the UK and is Trada Q Mark accredited.

A key benefit of the product is the ability to retrofit to housing stock which already has some form of insulation in situ. A major problem to Local Authorities and Housing Associations in recent times is the difficulty created in upgrading insulation where the thermal performance of the product in situ is not the issue but the fact that it has been poorly installed very much is.

This is where RetroFoam™ comes into its own as the product can easily be installed into stud voids with existing, underperforming, insulation in place. This major benefit negates the need to carry out expensive refurbishment projects on the back of insulation upgrades, projects which very often involve decanting the occupants.

  • Building Warrants

    In Scotland a Building Warrant is not required for retrofitting insulation in line with current legislation. Schedule 3 of Regulation 5 states under Clause 17 that:

    “Any work associated with thermal insulating material to or within a wall, ceiling, roof or floor is deemed exempt.”

    The exemption to the exemption states:

    “Any work associated with the application of thermal insulating material to the outer surface of an external wall.”

    In England and Wales a Building Notice is required. RetroFoam UK Ltd is happy to provide all the necessary information required for the Building Notice.

  • Health & Safety

    At RetroFoam UK Ltd we are fully committed to healthy and safe working practices and all our technicians are fully trained. All injection rig operators will carry a card to certify that they have successfully completed a specialist course in the use of all the equipment used in the injection process.

    As far as is reasonably practicable, all RetroFoam operations will be carried out in accordance with health and safety legislation uppermost in the Board's thoughts in order to protect our technicians and the communities they operate within.

    To ensure we provide safe and healthy working conditions and practices, we will continually review our processes in line with customer feedback and commit adequate resources encouraging continual improvement throughout our business.

    We can provide full method statements and risk assessments of all installation processes and COSHH data sheets for the raw and mixed products involved in the installation of RetroFoam™. As you would expect of a company in this sector we carry full public and employer’s liability insurance.

  • Environmental Policy

    RetroFoam UK Ltd recognises the important part health & safety plays in responsible environmental management. The RetroFoam™ product is fully bio-degradable and the raw product is transported in bio-degradable bags.

    As part of our operational requirements we have an Environmental Policy statement which plays an integral part in the decision making process of the business on a day to day basis.

  • Project Support

    The RetroFoam product development team works with our customers to bring timely, field-tested products to the market. We provide nationwide education/installation through our network of technicians.
